Our Programs

As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Glad Park P.S. supports student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.

  • A focus on literacy and learning - A focus on literacy forms the foundation of improvement planning at Glad Park P.S. We strive to provide students with the necessary skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing, with a current focus on student writing. Professional development is provided for school staff by Administration, YRDSB Consultants, Stouffville Learning Network, and Glad Park P.S. Staff Members (e.g., Glad Park P.S. Literacy Team). The following school programs and resources have supported us with this goal: Links to Literacy (booster support programs for primary students), Parents as Partners (literacy supports for parents), and Monthly Writing Competitions (sponsored by the School Council).
  • A focus on assistive technology - We are committed to attaining, using, and learning about the many forms of assistive technology that support staff and students.
  • A focus on student leadership - We have an active (non-elected), problem solving student leadership council that focuses much of their attention on our school goal of developing and sustaining a respectful school (e.g., charitable fundraising, "Me to We" activities).
  • A focus on whole child education - We offer a wide variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities (e.g., athletics, arts, clubs). Some of those activities include: Musical Productions (e.g., Willy Wonka), Math Competitions (e.g., Gauss), Games Club, Public Speaking, Spelling Bee, Field Trips, Winter Electives, Seasonal Concerts, Fundraising (e.g., PGL, Terry Fox Run, Quarters for Kids), Together We're Better YRDSB Student Conference Team, You're the Chef Cooking Club, Athletic Teams (Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Badminton, Cross-Country Running, Track & Field, Relay, Swimming), Play Days, Student Leadership Council, Intramurals, ECO Club, Book Fair, Health & Safety Club, Student Writing Contest, VIP, Student Success Assembly, Swim to Survive, Scientist in the School, Arts Performances, Spirit Days, Knitting Club, Girls Club, Yearbook, and Peer Mediation.

Student Council

Student leadership at Glad Park Public School helps build enthusiasm, character education, and promotes a sense of belonging in the school. Intermediate student council members have had a voice in decision making related to the organization of school activities.

In the past, students have taken ownership in planning and developing fundraising activities that benefit the entire school such as organizing various spirit days (e.g., crazy hair day, superhero day, pj day etc.). They also take part in our Holiday season fundraisers, for example collecting toy and food donations for our local charities and families in our community.
